Skin must be exfoliated, clean, dry, and free of all other products. Shake product vigorously prior to application and prepare a damp cloth and a dry cloth prior to starting your application. These cloths will be used to wipe palms of hands every so often during application, to prevent product from settling into your skin.

Phase 1: Prep for Perfection
A professional tan is only as good as the canvas beneath it.

• Exfoliate: Use a sugar or salt-based scrub 24 hours before (or the day of) your application. Focus on creating a smooth, uniform surface.
• The "Oil-Free" Rule: Avoid oil-heavy scrubs or foaming shower gels. These leave a residue that acts as a "blocker," preventing the tan from penetrating and leading to patches.
• Create a Barrier: Apply a thin layer of oil-free lotion to hands, feet, and dry patches (heels, knees, elbows). This prevents these areas from over-absorbing the product.

Phase 2: The Bottom-Up Technique
Applying in sections prevents the product from creasing as you move.

1. The Lower Body

• The Flow: Begin at the ankles. Work in gentle, overlapping circular motions up the calf toward the knee.
• Distribution: You don’t need to rub the product in completely; it will absorb naturally as you move upward.
• The Wrap: Blend from the thighs into the hips, buttocks, and lower back.
  Reset: Wipe your palms with a damp cloth before moving to the next section.

2. The Mid-Section & Back

• The Wrap-Around: Sweep product from the hips upward, moving toward the ribcage. Ensure you blend around the sides of your torso for a seamless transition to the back.
• Back Coverage: If using a tanning strap, apply product to the center and use a "sawing" (side-to-side) motion.
• Set the Base: Use a blow dryer on a cool setting for 30 seconds to set the lower half of your body before moving to the chest.

Phase 3: Upper Body & Arms
The skin on the chest and inner arms is thinner and requires a "feathering" touch.

• Chest & Shoulders: Start at the base of the bust and work toward the collarbones. Use only "leftover" product from your mitt to blend toward the neck.
• Outer Arms: Work from the shoulder down toward the hand. The tops of the arms can handle more product as they naturally catch more sun.
• Inner Arms & Elbows: Use a very light touch here. Bend your arm to apply to the elbow, then buff the "point" immediately with a dry cloth.
• The Claw: Shape your hand into a "claw" to blend over knuckles, ensuring no white gaps remain.

Phase 4: Face, Hands & Feet

Option A: Tanning Cream (The Smooth Sweep)

Apply as you would a foundation. Blend meticulously into the hairline, temples, and jawline. Feather the product down the neck and onto the ears to avoid a line of demarcation.

Option B: Tanning Mist (The Zigzag Method)

• The Motion: Hold the mist 6–8 inches away. Move in a tight, consistent zigzag motion from the forehead down to the décolleté.
• The Mist Rule: Two light passes are always better than one heavy pass.
• The Buff: Use a fluffy kabuki brush to lightly buff the mist into the hairline and ears immediately after spraying.

The Professional Finish (Do Not Skip!)

• The "No-Fly Zone": Avoid applying directly to armpits. Simply buff the edges of the area with a dry cloth for a natural blend.
• Wrist & Ankle Buff: Use a rolled dry cloth to gently buff the transition between your wrists/hands and ankles/feet.
• The T-Pose Set: Stand in a "T-pose" and use a cool blow dryer for 60 seconds, focusing on inner elbows and under the bust.

Self tanners are products that contain an active ingredient (DHA), that causes a process on the skin which enhances and darkens the color of your skin. Instead of spending hours tanning in the sun or tanning beds, self tanners are a safer and more expeditious way of acquiring a deep, dark tan or just a healthy light glow.

What's the difference between gradual and rapid tanners?
Gradual tanners are a category within self tanning products. Gradual is a product with a very small amount of DHA—the active ingredient that darkens the skin a little at a time. This is a good product for very light skin and or someone that is a novice at applying self tanners.

Rapid self tanners are solutions that have a very high percentage of the active ingredient and because of that, will develop color more quickly. This product is not always full proof and is best reserved for those needing a very dark tan for events like fitness competitions, dance competitions, etc. This style of tanning puts a lot of the active into the skin, which typically breaks down quickly and unevenly.

How do I apply self-tanner to my face?
Best advise is to treat the self tanner like you are applying your foundation, blend deliberately into your hair line and down onto your neck and décolleté.

Why does my face tan fade faster?

Facial skin is thinner than the skin found on the abdomen, legs, and arms. In addition, the face is exposed to the environment continually and requires anti-aging products, potions, and makeup to protect the skin. While these products 'save face', due to their exfoliating nature they break down the tan more quickly.

Do I need to wear sunscreen?

Absolutely. Despite the darkening of the skin, an individual is just as susceptible to the harmful rays of outdoor and indoor tanning. An overall sun protection program is still necessary.

What's the difference between a Chocolate Sun mist, lotion, and gel tan?

• Tanning Mist: this is most like our professional treatment/ airbrushing. This is great for a full body tan but also can serve as a great finishing product for hands and feet, or as a quick "pick me up" glow when you don’t have time for a full body tan but want a bit of color on your face neck chest and arms. The mist, when applied gives instant color due to the bronzing color guide.
• Tanning Cream: is best for an all over body treatment. It is incredibly hydrating and lasts the longest of all the delivery systems, because of the hydration. Once you learn and master the application, the tan will last 7-10 days and fades out naturally.
• Tanning Gel: this is an aloe based self tanner and it is quick drying, great for acne prone skin and delivers a wonderful color. Because of the aloe base, this gel seems to start developing color a bit quicker!

How can I avoid streaks and uneven color?

Does the solution have an odor?
